New Search Functions: Use – and * to replace unknown letters in a word
We’ve added a new search function, for searching on partial words, using – and *.
A dash, or dashes, can be used to replace single letters in a word, eg, B-rry or B-r-y
An asterix can be used to replace several letters in a word where you’re unsure how many there are, eg, Ba*y
Although you will get an error message if it finds too many files, so use other search functions like written, incised, signed, to narrow it down.
We are still working on searching for more than one word at a time. At present it only works for strings of words as they are written in each potter’s entry, and a misplaced comma or full stop or space can scupper a search
